| Amelia Lapeña-Bonifacio is currently English Professor Emeritus and University Professor of the University of the Philipppines. She is also Artistic Director and Playwright of MULAT. Affectionately called "Tita" (Auntie) by children and adults, she has been dubbed by Malaysian critic, Krishen Jit as, the "Grande Dame of SE Asian Theater." After graduating AB English from the University of the Philippines, she was awarded a Fulbright Smith-Mundt Scholarship Award to work for her MA (Speech & Theatre) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where her first two plays, "Sepang Loca" and "Rooms" won in the UW Playwriting Competition in two consecutive years and were premiered at the UW Playcircle and published, the first by Fairleigh Dickinson U Literary Journal and the second as acting edition by Row,Peterson & Company of New York. |
